Original post…
Tracking your daily word count is a true and tried method used by a lot of successful writers. It keeps them focused and on track of their writing goals. My goal for 2017 is to publish at least four novels, so to do that, I need better focus and strategy to keep on track. I started using a daily word count tracker spreadsheet in late October of 2016, and although it’s only been a few weeks, I’m finding it very helpful.
This strategy is not new, but it’s popular and recommended a lot because it works.
By tracking your daily word count, it helps you focus and on track of your writing goals.
As you can see, my daily word count tracker spreadsheet is very simple.
I break it down by day. My daily word count goal is 1,000, so I kept things simple and made my monthly goal to be 30,000 words. Every day I enter my word count for that day and the spreadsheet tracks the word count for that day, the total word count after every day, and the words to go in order to reach my goal of 30,000 words per month.
Big Goals
My goal for 2017 is to publish at least four novels, so to do that, I need better focus and strategy to keep on track. I started using a daily word count tracker spreadsheet in late October 2016, and although it’s only been a few weeks, I’m finding it very helpful.
I’m not an Excel whiz, I can barely handle basic formulas, so my daily word count tracker spreadsheet is very basic and simple (if I hit my daily word count goal the cell color for that is green — if I fall short, it’s red).
It’s very easy to change the formula — my monthly goal is 30,000 words per month, so that’s what I have set up in the Excel formula— you can just change that to 20,000, 50,000, or whatever you want.If you’re looking for a basic daily word tracker spreadsheet you can download it here (it’s free and that’s a direct download link).
Changing the cell colors is also very easy just click on “Conditional Formatting” and you change the value (my tracker has 1,000 as a value because that’s my goal, so you can change that to 2,000 or whatever your daily word count goal is).
