How to transfer domain name to Namecheap
In this video, I’ll walk you through the process of transferring a domain name to Namecheap from GoDaddy. This is done with a real domain name (alanpetersen.com which is the domain for my author website).
Why Transfer a Domain Name?
I first registered AlanPetersen.com in 2000. I’ve had this domain for 18 years now! It’s been registered with GoDaddy for at least 16 or 17 years. So why transfer it now?
The main reason is that I’m cheap. GoDaddy renewal prices kept going up and up and they got rid of the renewal discount codes. The other reason is I don’t like how GoDaddy hammers you with upsells. I don’t host or have any other products with GoDaddy, just the domain name registration so when I heard good things about Namecheap and they were cheaper, I transferred one of my other domain names (I have about 10 domain names).
Namecheap has been great. They offer a clutter-free interface. Their prices are good. And now they offer free WHOIS protection, for life!
So as my domain names came for renewal, I transferred them over to Namecheap. This is my last domain name with GoDaddy, so I decided to record the transfer process of moving a domain name from GoDaddy to Namecheap.
It’s easy and fast to do. The video below walks you through the whole process in real time.
